Paremata Roundabout Upgrade - Signals 2019

NZTA's contractor commenced the installation of traffic metering signals at the northern approach to the roundabout in early April.

NZTA released information on what changes are being made and what impact they will have on traffic flow through the roundabout. For more information have a look at the PDF file on this page.

On 20 June 2019 NZTA provided a media release stating that the signals will become operational on 1 July 2019. NZTA's media release is available in the PDF file below.

Paremata Residents Association received advice from NZTA in December 2019 that they believed the Paremata Roundabout was operating efficiently. This is backed up anecdotal reports that traffic was moving well in all directions and it was now much safer to exit from the Paremata Station carpark.

Paremata Train Station Carpark Upgrade 2019

Residents will be well aware of commuter parking difficulties in or close to the Paremata train station. The shortage of parking spaces at the station is causing congestion along Paremata Cresent and around the school, and the northern part of Papakowhai Road. And this unsatisfactory situation has increased since Greater Wellington Regional Council (GWRC) changed the train fare structure this year.

Paremata Residents Association has been lobbying GWRC to develop more parking spaces at the southern end of the station for the last 2 years or more. But GWRC have been reluctant to go ahead due to difficulty and safety concerns for vehicles leaving the station. However GWRC decided to go ahead with the carpark expansion around the same time that metering signals are installed at the Paremata Roundabout by NZTA.

Contractors started on site at the train station in early April on the construction of around 70 new carparking spaces to the south of the existing carpark. This work was originally planned to be completed by the end of July but has been delayed after problems were found with ground water in some parts of the parking area that was affecting ground stability. After consultants completed the design of a solution and the contractor returned to site, the new parking area became available just before Christmas.
