Paremata train station safety improvements
Residents have expressed the need for safe access to stations, so we have commenced action to address in particular the dangerous exit from the Paremata station onto the roundabout at the junction of SH1 and SH58.
We are also concerned that our residents are finding it increasingly difficult to park in the vicinity of the Paremata station. The station car park and the car park at the end of Station Road East are at capacity almost every week day, and adjacent residential streets are becoming increasingly congested as motorists try to find car parks nearby when they want to catch a train.
To address these two related issues we have written to the Greater Wellington Regional Council (GWRC), which operates the regional Tranz Metro services, suburban stations, and associated car parks, recommending that they enlarge the Paremata station car park. Our submission also recommends that the GWRC and the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA), which operates and maintains the State Highway system, cooperate to move the car park exit away from the roundabout.
The GWRC has surveyed residents and confirmed our concerns, but is not prepared to enlarge the station car park until the dangerous exit issue is addressed by the NZTA. To date we have not heard from the NZTA.
