Mana Clearway Review

Mana Clearway Review

When the NZTA sought approval to replace the original T2 lanes through Mana with a clearway system, conditions were imposed requiring various reviews to be carried out or instigated by the NZTA within 18 months of the clearway lanes becoming operational, ie, by September 2013.

In June 2014 the Association received a draft report, prepared by MWH consultancy for the NZTA, reviewing compliance with the Clearway Conditions and incorporating a Safety and Operational Audit of the road. On the 8th of July we had a preliminary meeting with NZTA and PCC officers to discuss the report. At that meeting we outlined our preliminary thoughts on the report but also indicated that we would like to get feedback from the community before confirming those views. A newsletter outlining those preliminary thoughts was subsequently distributed to all Village households seeking feedback on them.

The Association’s views were firmed up as a result of that feedback and sent to the PCC and the NZTA in November 2014. Essentially we recommended some extensions to the clearway hours, changes to (and enforcement of) signage, changes to heavy vehicle lane restrictions, some extension of kerbside parking, action to address queues at the Paremata roundabout and signs to reduce confusion at intersections along Mana Esplanade.

We await some response from the NZTA and/or the PCC.
